Bodaboda operators' dumped in forest

26 December 2012, 13:00 Alloys Musyoka

As Christians across the country celebrate birth of Jesus Christ a family in Malindi is mourning the death of their family member who was murdered by unknown people and his body dumped in Gede Forest before the assailants left with his motorcycle.

Nassir Adam, a boda boda operator in Malindi district went missing one week ago before his body was discovered in Gede forest by women who had gone to fetch firewood.

The deceased's body was found with injuries and a knife used to stabb him still in his chest together with a rope which is believed to have been used by the attackers to kill him before they left with his motor cycle.

It is believed that those behind the killings are a gang who always pose as passengers to Bodaboda operators just to turn to them rob off the motorcycles after brutally killing the operators especially at night.

Family members told journalists that the deceased had left his family for work on Thursday last week but he did not come back that evening as he did other days.

They then reported the matter to Malindi police station the following day and continued looking for him in several places among them mortuaries where they thought if at all he had died could have been taken there but all in vein.

The deceased is said to have left three children and a widow as his family complains of insecurity in the area which has led the murder of their relative.

Family of the deceased want the police to investigate the death of their relative and find those behind it and arrest them.

Malindi deputy police boss Samson Ogero confirmed that there was a body which was discovered in the area but could not confirm if belonged to the Bodaboda operator who had gone missing.

He said that he was communicating with his juniors to know if the disappearance of the claimed BodaBoda operator was reported at Watamu police station or Malindi police station before he make it public.

Cases of Bodaboda operators being murdered and their motorcycles stolen in Malindi district and its environs has been rising every now and then with motorcycle operators blaming police for colluding with suspects arrested by them.

Recently Boda Boda operators in the area demonstrated accusing police for releasing motorcycle thieves claiming that they are compromised to do so but police in a quick rejoinder claimed most of the time lack of evidence cause them to release such suspects.
