Breweries to sponsor Harambee Stars

22 February 2012, 10:07John Maigwa

The Perennial financial problems that have always hit Harambee Stars may soon be over after the East African Breweries announced a 110 Million Shilling Sponsorship package for the national team over the next three years.

The Sponsorship package was announced on Monday evening in an unveiling ceremony at a Nairobi Hotel. The event was graced by the Right Honorable Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

The Cheque was presented to the FKF Chair Sam Nyamweya by the EABL Managing Director Baker Magunda, in the presence of the PM, Sports assistant minister Kabando wa Kabando among other dignitaries.

Magunda says that they are willing to ensure that Harambee Stars post good results and will be in the World Cup in Brazil in 2014.

“We as EABL are committed to ensure that this team prospers and hence our sponsorship. We had delayed a bit due to the usual wrangles that affect the leadership of soccer but now that things have become good we have faith that the money is going to be put in good use”, Magunda said.

The FK Chair Sam Nyamweya promised that they will be accountable with the money and promised a change for tidings for Harambee Stars.

“The players are ready and the technical bench is ready. We want to see Harambee Stars in South Africa in 2013 for the African Cup of Nations and we want to See Kenya in Brazil 2014”, Nyamweya said.

The PM also asked other corporate to come on board and invest in the national team.

“Football is business and for you to do well in business, you must invest. I want to make a call to other corporate to come on board and sponsor the national team. This is our team and it really pains me to sit in the stadium and watch them lose. We want this team to do well and we have the talent. We only have to invest”, said the PM.

The money comes at the right time when Harambee Stars are preparing to face Togo this Wednesday in the first leg of the African Cup of Nations 2013 Qualifier.
