Civic education intensifies

23 January 2013, 17:03 Kelvin Mureithi

Civic Education within Meru County has been intensified with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) promising to reach out to all residents in preparation for the March 4th polls.

Speaking to the media in his office, Meru County Returning Officer Fredrick Kamunde said the commission is well prepared for the election in spite of signs of unpreparedness among some voters even after the nominations had been conducted.

“We have to educate all the voters in the region by all means including displaying posters to ensure everybody is set for a successful election,” said Kamunde.

He however noted that the degree of voter unpreparedness was likely to change soon once a full list of nominees for the various electoral positions is unveiled.

The election official said the exact number of candidates vying for different seats within the county will be known once the nomination results are formalized.

“Unless we have received the nomination certificates from the different contestants for various posts, we cannot say the exact number of candidates running,” he added.
