Court warns man to stop begging

12 February 2013, 18:13 Wangui Joseph

Nyeri court acting chief magistrate Shadrack Okato on Tuesday cautioned a 28-year-old man against begging from parents arguing that he is old enough to be self dependent.

Isaack Mahugu Ng’ang’a appeared in court charged with breaching peace and threatening his father.

The court heard that in the morning of November 12 last year at Mung’aria village in Tetu, he demanded KES 3 000 from his father and made threats of selling their only goat if he did not give him the money.

Later in the evening he went and picked an axe outside their house and still terrorized his father that he would harm him if he failed to give him the money.

His mother raised alarm attracting members of public who came to their rescue.

Mahugu admitted all facts presented by prosecution.

In mitigation, he pleaded of leniency promising obedience to his parents though he said he was under financial constraints.

He informed the court that he wanted the money to facilitate his transport fee back to Nairobi where he used to work as a casual labourer.

The magistrate however said at his age, he should look for other ways of getting income instead of requesting for money from parents.

He instructed the accused to remain in custody till further directives are given over his fate.
