Political rally disrupts learning

08 February 2013, 15:16 Rodgers Buluma

The peak of the campaigns ahead of the March 4th polls have seen an aspirant for gubernatorial seat in Mombasa County host his campaign meeting in a school completely disrupting the learning process.

Ali Hassan Joho who is aspiring to become the first governor of Mombasa County held his campaign meeting at Ushindi Baptist education center regardless of the fact that he was well aware that the place was hosting both primary and high school students.

The campaigns that took the entire morning part of the day completely disrupted the progress of learning as the campaign noise could not give the students and teachers the peace of mind they required to focus on classwork.

The worst of it came when the multitude that had attended the meeting was offered a thank you token of KES 200 each.

The process resulted to chaos that attracted the attention of the pupils who ran out of class to see what was transpiring in their school.

With the limited time that teachers have to complete the syllabus due to elections which are bound to see pupils out of school for a week or so, it is hard to tell how they will be able to cover up for the wasted day.

It is fair that the campaigns be done in other public places than schools for the sake of safety of students.
