Do you know your partner?

22 February 2012, 12:40Antony Juma

Many people fail to take time to learn their spouses in wee moments of their matrimonial union or before. You find that there are some people who build a buffer between them and their spouses to a stage where one fails to tell whom really his/her better half.

You will realize with ups and downs of life it reaches a time when such questions like; where did I really get this ‘thing’ ,why did I marry this ‘dog’, what did I really drink when I resorted to this ‘brat’ and such like questions.

These questions usually emerge after some period in marriage life. It is obvious many young people who get in to marriage fail to understand what really marriage life is. In fact marriage is not roses and honey but it also contains bitter herbs. There are some individuals who got in to marriages as a result of influence, may be wealth, colour of the skin, complexion, fame and non filial factors.

I have witnessed cases where a very gigantic marriage lasts for a month. Save for the giant cost of the marriage celebration, just because something has not met the expectation of the other party.

I want advise those who are intending to make a life-long relationship to do more than just research and tests to quantify and qualify everything in a relationship. Another thing they must know is that marriage was constituted by God and no man can modify it to fit accordingly.

Remember a poor man may stay a very happy and lovely marriage while a dumb rich persons marriage breaks down.
