Ex - police officer murdered

08 February 2013, 16:17 Mwangi Karanja

Police in Trans Nzoia are investigating an incident where an ex-police officer was brutally murdered Wednesday night at Weitaluk village and his body later dumped one kilometer away from his home.

Kitale OCPD James Mitugo confirmed the incident saying that the deceased who was identified as Titus Biwot, 56, was seen the day before the incident at a local market and it was Thursday morning when the neighbors discovered his cold body that was lying breathless at the roadside.

“It is believed the deceased, who was living alone, was murdered because he had money after selling his farm and was planning to relocate to Uasin Gishu County,” Said Mitugo.

He said that the body was found few meters from the area, a drinking den, and that they have already arrested the woman who owns the place for further interrogation, adding that there was no indication that the man was killed there.

Mitugo added that they have arrested a suspect who he said was the deceased’s girl friend and is helping the police with the investigations.

One of the neighbors, Pauline Biwot, a nursery school teacher, claimed that the security of the area was wanting and that was the reason many people have started selling their land.

She narrated how a village that was home to many criminals was ransacked by police officers and most of the robbers arrested but others were able to escape.

“I think these cases of insecurity are caused by those who escaped the police crackdowns in this area. They have started terrorizing people again,” posed Biwot.

The area police boss has assured residents that the murderer will face justice after the investigations are completed.

The body was moved to Kitale district mortuary for postmortem.
