Government should admit students on merit

01 February 2013, 11:53 Alloys Musyoka

Education stakeholders in Malindi within Kilifi county have called on the government through the ministry of education to strictly admit students on merits and not favouritism.

Tahdhib Muslim Academy head teacher Ahmed Abdu said last years'  selection of candidates to join form one was not done fairly since it only favored those from public schools.

He said the government should ensure that those students who worked hard whether in public or private schools should have an equal chance to join national schools.

"In terms of education and matters of exams, we are all Kenyans and all students should be treated equally because education is their right as a Kenyan national," he pointed out.

The teacher however asked the government to invest more in schools so that there are no cases of students failing to report to form one because of insufficient facilities in the country.

"It is the responsibility of the government to ensure that there are facilities for students to pursue their studies because last year many children sat for their final exams. So, a lot of funds should be allocated to education ministry for construction of classrooms to accommodate all those who will be admitted," he advised.
