No space for criminal gangs

04 February 2013, 12:51 Wangui Joseph

The government is aware that there are criminal gangs teaming up in central Kenya and other parts of the country planning to extort money from politicians, cause mayhem and disrupt elections, government spokesman Muthui Kariuki said.

Muthui however issued a warning to such groups saying the administration will not give them a chance to exist or breach public peace.

Speaking in Nyeri during a media briefing on Saturday, Muthui said the government has put measures to ensure people will vote freely.

“It is our country and we should hold it in trust by thinking of where we are heading to. This is an assurance that forth coming general elections will be free, fair and transparent as government is concerned,” Muthui observed.

However, the orator dismissed claims that civil servants are used to campaign for some aspirants while others are been transferred on political basis.

“Whoever is raising such accusations does not mean well to this country. People will always lead a mischief on anything,” Muthui observed.

He said the government is not interested in any of the alliances and whichever takes over will be considerably treated as the people’s voice.

“Neither the President, head of public service Francis Kimemia, nor PS Mutea Iringo are contesting for any seat. So which interests would they be holding?” Muthui posed.

He also appealed to the youth to avoid indulging in dirty politics urging them to be self responsible and accountable.
