Kingi blames attacks on security laxity & games

05 March 2013, 15:28 Alloys Musyoka

Minister for Fisheries and Kilifi county aspiring governor Amason Jefa Kingi has blamed the security personnel in the country for denying residents of some parts of Kilifi county and Coast at large not to exercise their constitutional rights.

Kingi said insecurity incidents that occurred in Kilifi county where some people and officers lost their lives could have been avoided if security personnel had pout up security measures.

He said it was so unfortunate that thousands of voters in areas where violence was witnessed could not exercise their constitutional rights because of insecurity.

"Security officers are sleeping on their jobs because they had seen the MRC issue and the threats but did not come up with lasting solution," he said.

Kingi however could not rule out involvement of political games by CORD critics.

"We are also reading a lot of politics in those incidents because they happened in CORD strongholds. There could have been plans to instil fear among voters so that they don't vote," he noted.

Pointing finger to top security officials whom he said had no information on what was going on at the ground, Kingi said they failed Kenyans by not protecting them.

"I called the PC to inform him about polling stations that were being closed down even before time in Kilifi but he was not aware and insisted that no station was being closed meaning he was not briefed by his junior officers," he added.

Kingi was reacting on attacks in some parts of Kilifi county where several security officers and locals lost their lives forcing thousands of voters to go back to their because of fear.
