Lecturers action halts school activities

A state of confusion has engulfed students and support staff at Kabianga University College in Kericho district this morning after the university lecturers matched around the campus chanting solidarity slogans.

This came following the announcement of industrial action by the UASU chairman Charles Mukwa citing the failure of the government to honor their return to work agreement.

This has adversely affected the students who were supposed to be sitting for their end of semester exams that had been shifted to early January following the last year’s lecturers’ strike that lasted almost a month.

The University lecturers’ leader who sought anonymity for fear of victimization has noted that the court order issued earlier last week will not affect their industrial action and therefore the examinations in the campus have to come to halt immediately until further notice.

The students are stranded in the college awaiting further communication from the higher school authorities concerning their exams and stay in the university.

The students’ leader Gift Osumba has asked the students to remain calm as the matter is being addressed.
