Lorry conductor gets 'Wings to Fly' sponsorship

18 February 2013, 19:10 Wangui Joseph

Parents and casual laborers in Murang’a town on Sunday had jubilation and celebrations after one of them benefited from Wings to Fly initiative by the Equity Bank.

Wilson Mwibara, 21, did his Kenya Certificate for Primary Education (KCPE) examinations in 2006 at Murang’a primary school.

He immediately joined labour force where he had been working as a casual labourer in the transport industry in Murang'a town as a lorry conductor in an effort to make a living.

Four years later (2011), he joined the same school and decided to repeat class seven with an aim of improving his academic performance.

He sat KCPE exams again last year and managed to score 367 marks emerging the best candidate in the larger Murang’a County.

Mwibara has been enrolled to Lenana School for his secondary school education.

Though from a poor background, he pledged to work hard in the next level of his education and make his accounting dream come to a reality.
He was among 75 pupils who benefited form the kitty in the region which composes of Thika and Murang'a districts.

During the event, Murang’a Equity Bank officials asked locals to support vulnerable children in the society so that they can acquire education and other child rights through combined efforts.
