Maendeleo ya Wanaume Organisation has urged police to arrest and prosecute a woman who assaulted a 14-year old boy Kieni district for allegedly stealing KES 7 000.
While visiting the boy who is admitted in serious condition at Mary Immaculate Hospital in Mweiga Nyeri county, the organisation chairman Nderitu Njoka said action should be taken against the perpetrator since she is still at large.
The boy is nursing head injuries following the assault.
Njoka also urged the government to protect the boy child as cases of boy child abuse are on the rise.
“The society is taking up the action of disciplining the boy child and they are doing this mercilessly. The boy child should also be protected,” he said, adding that the law should take its cause.
According to the sister in charge of the hospital Veronica Rukunga, the boy was brought in last weekend by neighbours with severe cuts on the head, arms and fingers.
Rukunga explained that the boy had said that he had been beaten after stealing KES 7 000 from the aunt to go and look for his mother who had left them six years ago.
Rukunga regretted the action taken against the boy saying that he should be taken to the police for rehabilitation.
“Such a stern action should not be taken by the community. There is still a chance of such a kid changing if well rehabilitated and they become important people in the future,” she explained.
She also urged parents to be keen on the upbringing of their children, adding that many parents are neglecting their children with many turning to crime in search of attention from the parents.
