Suspect charged over aspirant's death

01 February 2013, 17:11 Kelvin Wanjohi

A young man appeared before a Nyahururu court three days after the burial of County Representative aspirant for Kiriita Ward in Nyandarua County Assembly, Geoffrey Kennedy Wambugu Kariuki, charged with being in possession of the personal effects of the deceased.

The prosecution believes the accused must have been involved in the circumstances that caused the horrific road accident that led to the demise of Ken on the TNA nomination day.

He was spotted by members of the public who had attended the burial and were with the aspirant on the day he died.

He was roughed up by the irate mourners who demanded to know how he had acquired the items and was nearly lynched but was rescued by police who were at the funeral.

The aspirant's death shocked many people who were with him a few minutes before the accident, and they paid glowing tributes to him as a person who was visionary and would offer advice to his age mates and the younger generation.

Among those who attended the funeral include Jeremiah Kioni who is the former Ndaragwa MP and current UDF presidential candidate Musalia Mudavadi's running mate.

Kioni called the people to be careful on the roads and avoid over speeding to minimize road carnage which has greatly robbed the country off industrious and worthy Kenyans.

He said that central province leaders should not call him a traitor because he is supporting Mudavadi, saying that every Kenyan has the right to associate with anyone.
