Metrologists defend themselves

24 January 2013, 17:45 Wangui Joseph

The Central Province Director for metrological department Nguata Francis has defended his Ministry against the accusations of giving inaccurate information over the weather focus.

Nguata said that there are very few weather stations countrywide which leave the department with the option of rounding off their findings which sometimes are not accurate.

He said the government should invest more on weather stations since there are just four in central province currently, that hardly serve the wide area.

Nguata noted that running of a weather station is a course task that demands a lot of investing.

The Provincial director however said that Kenya has the best instrument in Africa and is currently in third position worldwide.

He was speaking to press during a Weather Changes seminar at a hotel in Nyeri.

The seminar was organized by the weather station secretariat which had visited all counties and Nyeri was the last one.

Information gathered is expected to be discussed during the next stakeholders’ general meeting in Nairobi.

“This process has been made a reality through the new constitution Act on the right of the public to have a say during the decision making on maters touching their lives,” said Nguata.
