A 54 year old Kenya police reservist has been fined KES 14 000 by a Nanyuki court for losing a G3 riffle and nine rounds of ammunition.
Pailon Lepardiyo Parmashu was charged that on January 22nd 2013 at Anadung’uro village in Laikipia North, he had been legally issued with a G3 riffle which he failed to keep in safe custody hence losing it.
Lepardiyo was also charged that at the same time and place, he lost nine rounds of ammunition and a magazine.
While pleading guilty of the two counts, the police reservist told Nanyuki Senior Resident magistrate Caroline Obara that on that material day, he had accommodated visitors in his house who left the following morning.
Lepardiyo added that he realised that the loaded riffle was missing when he woke up.
The court heard that the OCS at Doldol police station, Atemba mobilised his officers to search for the firearm.
In mitigation, Lepardiyo pleaded for leniency saying that he is the sole bread winner for his family.
Obara directed that he pays a fine of KES 7 000 for each count or in default serve 6 months in prison.
He was released after clearing the fine.
