Politician defies Kimaiyo's orders

07 February 2013, 15:20 Alloys Musyoka

Malindi - The outgoing Malindi MP Gideon Mung'aro has said that politicians and especially in the coast region can not stop discussing historical land issues at public rallies.

The MP was responding to recent orders by newly appointed Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo for politicians to avoid the issue which may spark violence.

Mung'aro said it will be ironical for them to give it a blind eye since it has affected Coast residents for a long time.

"You can't tell us to stop discussing something that is affecting us; its not possible," he said.

Addressing locals at Bomani village in Magarini district during a public rally on Wednesday, Mung'aro said many children in the coast region had failed to get an education because their parents do not have title deeds of their lands which they could have used to get money from banks.

He said coast people voted vehemently for the new constitution which touched on solving the historical injustices of land problems in the country and Coast is not excluded.

The Kilifi North parliamentary aspirant urged locals to elect leaders from the Cord alliance since they are determined to implement the new constitution to its realization.

He called on politicians and locals in the area to maintain peace in the region during political rallies and after election.

Mung'aro was accompanied by Minister for Fisheries Development Amason, Jaffa Kingi, Magarini, aspiring MP Rodgers Katongoo and Kilifi county women representative Aisha Jumwa among other politicians.
