The CORD presidential candidate Raila Odinga has assured residents of West Pokot County that his government will bring to an end the cases of insecurity in the region.
Addressing thousands of his supporters at Makutano Stadium on Wednesday, the PM said CORD will prioritize the security of the people as the county has witnessed cases of cattle rustling recently which have made the county unfavorable for business activities.
“For a country to prosper, we need peace and CORD government will ensure that the security of Kenyans is not taken lightly,” he said.
Concerning food security, Odinga said his government will support farmers in the country by introducing policies that would propel the agriculture sector.
“We guarantee that CORD government would subsidise farm inputs to ensure that the production of food is increased so that our people will no longer perish from starvation,” said the premier at Sigor market.
He added that the semi arid areas needed a crop that can withstand the climatic conditions saying that CORD will promote agricultural research so as to encourage sustainable agriculture and also establish irrigation programs in the region.
Improve infrastructure in rural areas
Odinga said that if they will form the next government, they would improve infrastructure in rural areas so as to facilitate transportation of agricultural produce to the market.
The former Member of Parliament for Langata noted that the West Pokot County had been neglected by the previous governments saying that only CORD government had the plan to transform living standards of the marginalised community.
He reiterated that the communities living in arid and semi arid regions needed crop and livestock insurance cover as many have suffered from the frequent drought due to charging weather patterns.
Improve education standards
He said that in order to reduce illiteracy, CORD government will build more learning institutions and provide learning materials so as to improve education standards.
The CORD presidential candidate said that any county needed skilled manpower to develop.
He transversed the county in a series of rallies to drum up support for his presidential bid before addressing a rally at Makutano stadium in Kapenguria where he urged the residents to vote for CORD because they are the only ones who can implement the constitution.
The premier assured West Pokot residents that CORD was going to form next government, challenging them to join him in transforming Kenya for the betterment of the next generation.
