Security guards arrested over crime

14 June 2012, 13:32 Oduor Omondi

Four security guards have been arrested by police in Siaya town following alleged involvement in a spate of burglaries at their various places of work.

The arrests were made after security guards broke into three different business premises including an M-Pesa shop within the town on the same night and stole money and property whose value is still unknown.

The thugs allegedly broke into the M-Pesa shop and stole money and scratch cards worth thousands of shillings before proceeding to the Siaya Municipal Council Compound where they stole two discs of tractor plough belonging to the council.

According to the Municipal Council’s chief security officer, Ambrose Otuoma, the two security guards manning the council must have been asleep when the incident happened because they only realized of the incident in the morning.

The security officer explained that the thugs vandalized the plough after dragging it out of the compound and left other parts before attempting to break into a municipal council's car that was parked in the compound.

Siaya OCPD, Stephen Cheteka, who confirmed the arrests of Nicholas Oluoko and Dominic Odhiambo together with two others, said that the guards are currently helping the police with investigations to establish the suspects who are still at large.
