TNA warns violent aspirants

23 January 2013, 13:34 Alloys Musyoka

The National Alliance Party has warned youths and politicians planning to use hired goons to cause violence before and after general election in Kilifi county that they will be strictly dealt with.

Kilifi county aspiring governor Michael Tinga said the party will not allow his supporters to cause violence through uncalled for demonstrations if they lose or win in the coming general election.

Tinga called on his opponents eyeing the same post in Kilifi county to observe election rules before and after election to avoid chaos that can only lead to destruction of properties in the area.

"TNA is prepared and will not tolerate any person who will attempt to cause violence on grounds of losing the election like it has been witnessed in many parts of the country during the recent nomination exercise. We want a peaceful election," he added.

Addressing journalists at his office in Malindi after receiving his certificate, Tinga said the government through its security forces is alert and will decisively deal with whoever will be spotted planning or causing violence and destroying other people's properties.

The Kilifi county gubernatorial aspirant urged his opponents to be ready and accept the results whether winners or losers, and support winners for the development of the Kilifi county and the country at large.

He appealed to TNA supporters and some leaders who lost the nominations not to leave the party and instead cooperate with the chosen leaders to shape the party for a major win in the coming general election.

"We all know misunderstanding is election is common. However, moving from one party to another is not the solution. It's good that those who lost to support the winner for the sake of winning the coming elections," he noted.

If elected Kilifi county governor, Tinga said he will use the opportunity to bring different communities living in the area together for the sake of developing the region which has for many years lagged behind in terms of development.

Tinga was given a direct nomination of carrying the TNA flag for Governor in Kilifi county.

In his campaigns, he will be accompanied by Senator Professor Chenje Mwachiro and TNA MPs from seven constituencies in Kilifi county who were nominated during the party primaries which ended last week with a lot of confusion across the country.
