Two guards missing in Laikipia

19 September 2012, 14:33 James Kabotia

Two night guards are admitted at Nanyuki district hospital with serious injuries while the where abouts of their two other colleagues remains a mystery, after they were attacked by thugs.

According to Laikipia East police commander Joshua Lutukai, the four who were manning a beer distribution depot and the adjacent premises were attacked by a gang of robbers.

Lutukai said that an unknown number of thugs clobbered the watchmen at Munjiru enterprises which is located behind Kirimara springs hotel with their rungus.

“The information we are getting is that the gang arrived in a vehicle and clobbered them before breaking the door of the premises with a crowbar” Said Lutukai.

This comes at the wake of increased insecurity in Nanyuki town and its environs, with three people being killed in three weeks time and others robbed off motorcycles and other valuables.

So far no suspect has been arrested.

On Tuesday, Nanyuki police station commanding officer Jerumani Mwamavuo, told journalists in OCPD’s office that they are currently focusing on terrorism more than anything else.

A police officer in the station who did not want to be named however accused their Administration police counterparts of laxity.

“How can we be going to patrol even at their gate at their headquarters in Majengo estate while they are still there”
questioned the senior officer.

He observed that many people have been mugged at the area, adding that bangi and illicit brew is sold in their presence.

However, Laikipia East AP commander John Tarus said that the formation did not have a vehicle to patrol, adding that they have gotten one.

“Now we will increase patrol because we have a new vehicle though we do not have fuel” said Tarus.
