Two men appeared before a Maua court with charges of impersonating police officers.
The two Solomon Muluu Muthui alias Mutua and Charles Muteti Munyalo alias Kyalo were arraigned before resident magistrate Waweru Wang’ang’a where they denied the charges.
They were charged that on February 6, 2013 at Kiengo market in Kiengu location within Meru County, they jointly impersonated a police officer.
The prosecution told the court that the two falsely presented themselves before Eliphas Mbabu as police officers in a bid to extort money from him.
The two attempted to arrest Mbabu claiming that Muluu was a Criminal Investigation Officer while Muteti purported to be a General Service Unit Officer (GSU).
Mbabu later reported the incidence to Maua police station due to suspicion though he had given them the money.
They were later arrested by officers from the same station but both denied the charges and were released on a bond of KES 50 000 each with a surety of the same amount or a cash bail of KES 10 000.
Their cases will be heard on May 20 with a mention being set for February 28.
