Violence mars campaigns in Kisumu

Two days to the ODM primaries and violence continues to mar political campaigns in Kisumu with the politics now getting even murkier.
Sunday saw a chief campaigner of a Kisumu Central parliamentary aspirant was stripped naked and beaten senseless at a campaign rally in Manyatta estate after a scuffle ensued between supporters who were scrambling for money.
Austin Omondi Oduor alias Makamu, the campaign manager for parliamentary aspirant, Ken Obura was pelted with stones and beaten by rowdy youth demanding a stake of the KES 70 000 allegedly given by the politician.
Kisumu’s Love Bar ground near Arina Phase 4 and Obinju primary school turned into a battle field as the youth fought bitterly for the cash in 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1000 shillings notes.
The youth forced their way into the classroom from where Makamu was dishing out the loot, roughed him up before robbing him off everything.
Having waited for too long and for fear that they could probably miss out on the cash, the youth in the hundreds stormed the classroom and flushed out Makamu who fled to another classroom to seek refuge and hoped to continue dishing out the cash in a more orderly manner.
He stormed out and started throwing out huge bundles of the cash which the large crowd went scrambling for with others sustaining serious injuries in the melee as he made a futile attempt to flee from the charging crowd.
The youth pursued him, stripped him stark naked before beating him almost to death.
He was rushed to Aga Khan Hospital in critical condition.
The aspirant, Ken Obura condemned the attack saying the youth had been sent by his political rivals to disrupt his meeting.
