Low voter turnout at registration

Nairobi - As voter registration kicked off on Monday across the country amid reports of a low turnout, delays and malfunctioning Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) kits, the Daily Nation reports.

President Mwai Kibaki officially launched at the exercise Kenyatta Conference Centre in Nairobi where he gave assurance that the government will deploy adequate security personnel around the country during the election period.

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman Issack Hassan dismissed reports that the BVR kits make users impotent.
