Voters to serve a jail sentence for taking bribe

06 February 2013, 13:02

Nairobi - Daily Nation reports voters who will accept inducements to vote for a particular candidate during the March 4 General Election will face the law.

According to the Elections Handbook for Security Personnel released by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Tuesday, it will be an electoral offence for voters to accept money or food in return for supporting a particular candidate.

Accepting or taking food, drink, refreshments, money, ticket or adopting a means or device of procuring them "knowing it was intended to influence him to vote or refrain from voting for XY candidate/political party" is also considered an offence.
